A 'little' venting on my part...

So why is it that Utah is so out of touch with the world...from a fashion perspective that is (Yes, there are many other levels, but that would take up way to much of my time. Plus, there are other bloggers on that task anyway). All I see is the layered polo and pukashell look from Abercrombie & Fitch and all the other brands that resemble it. Or guys that think that tight pants and boat shoes is unique. The pop rocker 'emo' look is not a fashion statement. Look around; it's just another fashion plague that everyone is following. WHERE IS THE STATEMENT IN THAT?

I’m not saying you have to go out and completely change out wardrobe. What you wear is who you are, so you don’t want to completely loose that. I’m just stating that there is always room for improvement. Maybe if you are a sandals guy, switch out your Reefs for a pair of Tim Hamilton's, or if you are a shirt and chinos guy, try more color verses your typical white and tan combo.

And I understand that this is a small state and that we need to give it time. But with the Internet allowing us to see what is out there at all time and events like Sundance Film Festival, which brings in thousands upon thousands of people from all over; we should be able to muster up some stores with a little fashion sense. Yet, we have nothing. Ok, I take it back...there are a few stores that cater to ‘fashion’. However, their take on men’s fashion is True Religion jeans and a Ed Hardy tee. That is not fashion forward...that's a 'tool' in the making!!!

We need to have places that are willing to explore all the great designers that are out there. Those new up- and- coming designers that are waiting to be discover and become the next Karl Lagerfeld and YSL's of the world. We need to step out of the fashion mold that consumes Utah and be willing to bring in fashion that, lets face it, the rest of the world is embracing. We need names like Hyden Yoo, Rachel Comey, and Robert Geller in our stores!

I do want to point out that the fashion stroll is becoming a popular event, which functions as a great tool to help boost and shed light on local designers. However, that being said, their men's collection tends to mostly feature printed tees and torn jeans. WHY!!!???!? I know there's better talent out here!

But in the end it's up to the individual to add a little 'statement' to their wardrobe and with it, hopefully bring about some change in peoples perception of fashion in Utah.

It doesn’t take much to be forward. A little can go a long way…So be Fashion Forward this spring and mix it up!!
